Liliana Carrizo is a Ph.D. student in Musicology, focusing on Jewish-Iraqi musical practices. She completed her Master’s degree on Mongolian music of the central Gobi desert at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and BA in Music from Williams College. Liliana’s research focuses on the improvised musical tradition of surviving Iraqi-Jewish women, where creative expression allows women to articulate social criticism and voice their memories of Iraq. She co-founded the Itgel Foundation.
