We asked Dr. Zakia Salime about her current work and here are snippets of what she shared:
What is the focus of your current work and/or research? I am an Associate Professor (WGSS and Sociology) at Rutgers University. My research and publications encompass a wide range of interests including urban youth protests and music, Islamophobia, war and racial politics in the U.S.
How has your GRID minor helped you in your career? I was honored to be part of the GRID minor, the courses, the connections and life time, friendships were essential to my career. I received most of my internal funding through GRID and built a network of scholars who later became my readers and letter writers.
Do you have any advice or suggestions for current GRID Students? To current students, I would say first that their choice to be affiliated with GRID is already a choice that will change their outlook on gender issues by grounding it in an international dimension and that this choice will make them much more attractive on a difficult job market.
How can we learn more about your work?
