Emilia Poppe, is from the US and is a PhD student in Human and Community Development and in the Medical Scholars Program. She has a BS in Chemistry and Biology Double Major from Illinois Wesleyan University. She was an English teacher and volunteer with Save the Children for several years in Vietnam. She is currently working with the local Family Resiliency Center, focusing on health and wellbeing of children in low-income households. She is also partnering with a local public school to design and evaluate a parent-involvement workshop for low-income minority student families. She has received several awards and scholarships. She plans to use her future skills as a physician to understand and treat patients in underserved communities in Vietnam.
