Spring workshop, May 27-30, 2023
Kyushu University
The spring workshop took place at Kyushu University May 27-30, and the lead organizers were Ran Zwigenberg and Natalie Konomi, both from Kyushu. The participants from the fall workshop, with the exception of the keynote speakers, all convened to identify possible specific topics for future collaborative research. To aid in the process of identifying target agencies, Melanie Loots from Illinois and Harold Kusters from Kyushu provided an overview of potential grant opportunities in both the United States and in Japan. The Kyushu conference also included a tour of the Tachiarai Peace Memorial Museum, Dazaifu Tenmangu, and Kyushu National Museum. During the daytrip to Hiroshima participants visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum with discussions by a) curators of the museum with how it evolved over time and b) Robert Jacobs in the Hiroshima Peace Institute.
