Founder and director, Comidas que Curan
Director/producer, Raspando coco. Producer, Tarpuna: Guardians of the Coconut and the Mangrove.
After the screening of Raspando Coco earlier this Spring, we asked Pilar about her current work and here are snippets of what she shared:
1. What is the focus of your current work?
I am an anthropologist of food, focusing on the value that traditional and ancestral foodways, which are still alive today in many parts of the world, bring for human health and wellbeing.
2. How has your GRID minor helped you in your career?
The GRID minor solidified the experiences and knowledge I brought with me from my home country, Ecuador, regarding the transformative social role of women in communities and the world.
3. Do you have any advice or suggestions for current GRID Students?
Get curious about your heritage, it contains a goldmine. Talking to elders, and especially women, is a channel to this valuable, life-sustaining, heritage.
